Koopmeiners out for the Euros
The Netherlands has been dealt a major blow ahead of the European Championship, with midfielder Teun Koopmeiners ruled out of the tournament due to a groin injury.
The Atalanta star, who has been linked with a move to Juventus, sustained the injury during the warm-up for the friendly match against Iceland on Wednesday. He was subsequently replaced in the starting lineup, which went on to win the game 1-0.
Following the match, Koopmeiners underwent further medical examinations, which confirmed the extent of the injury. The Dutch Football Association announced that the 25-year-old will be unable to participate in the upcoming European Championship.
Third midfield injury for the Netherlands
Koopmeiners’ injury is the third blow to the Netherlands’ midfield in the lead-up to the tournament. Earlier this month, midfielder Marten de Roon was ruled out with a knee injury, while Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong was also forced to withdraw due to a hamstring injury.
The Dutch national team will now be looking to find replacements for the injured trio, with manager Ronald Koeman facing a challenging task in rebuilding his midfield.
Juventus target
Koopmeiners’ injury is also a setback for Juventus, who are reportedly interested in signing the midfielder this summer. The Italian club has been monitoring his progress at Atalanta and is believed to be keen on adding him to their squad.
However, with Koopmeiners now sidelined for the foreseeable future, it remains to be seen whether Juventus will still pursue a move for the player.
A major blow for the Netherlands
This is a major blow for the Netherlands, who were already struggling with injuries in midfield. Koopmeiners is a key player for the Dutch national team, and his absence will be keenly felt. The team will now need to find a way to cope without him, which will be a difficult task.
